Ventura names his all-time Italy XI before visiting Pescara

Gian Piero Ventura’s visits around the Serie A sides are set to draw to a close. Along with the assistant coach Salvatore Sullo and secretary Mauro Vladovich, Ventura will visit Massimo Oddo’s Pescara tomorrow. In the coming weeks, trips to Crotone and Udinese will see the Italy coach complete visits of all 20 Serie A clubs.

Furthermore, Ventura revealed his all-time top Italy starting XI in an exclusive interview with ‘Vivo Azzurro’ with a team made up entirely of retired players. "This isn’t a tactical selection but one from the heart," said Ventura. In goal: Dino Zoff. "He’s the history of football, excluding those still playing, he’s the strongest player from the last 50 years," Ventura explained. His full-backs are Tarcisio Burgnich and Giacinto Facchetti ("They were part of my youth"). His centre-backs are Franco Baresi and Alessandro Nesta, while there’s an ‘atypical’ midfield featuring Franco Causio, Gianni Rivera, Romeo Benetti and Roberto Baggio ("he entertained me many times"). His front two are Sandro Mazzola and Gigi Riva.
