Azzurre face Portugal at 20:45 CEST for a place in the World Cup!

It’s like the big night before an exam for the Women’s National Team who face France with a chance to secure qualification for the World Cup in France next summer.

Tonight at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, the Azzurre will meet Portugal with the aim of securing a win to qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time since the 1999 tournament in the USA. It’s the first of two chances for Italy to secure qualifying after a run of six wins from six in the group after things began nine months aga with five goals scored against Moldova. The away win against Portugal on 28th November that came thanks to a Daniela Sabatino goal set up a key home fixture on 4th September against Belgium who were the only opponent contending for the top spot that brings direct qualification without the need to navigate the playoff.

“In this week of training, the side has worked well despite the fact that it’s been a very intense period for the girls with the Scudetto final,” said Milena Bertolini. “Portugal are a quality side and it’s important that we take them on with the same spirit that we had in previous matches, showing that we’re an aggressive side that can play. We’ll need to be very focused and pay attention to individual details.”
