Azzurre await Portugal clash. Gama: “We know how much these games count

“We’re well aware of how important Friday’s game against Portugal is and how tough they are as an opponent,” said Sara Gama. “We played them away from home last November, and it was a really difficult game. We’ll face a different side on June 8th, as they’ve grown since the last match. However, we’re also in a period of evolution.”

Speaking to Vivo Azzurro, the captain of the National Women’s Team issued a rallying cry ahead of Friday’s fixture, one that could ensure first place in the group and also their spot at the 2019 World Cup in France.

“The crowd will be right behind us,” she continued. “Reiterating our slogan from the presentation, the fans will be our ‘12th woman out on the pitch’. Florence has a special relationship with Women’s football and there are many individuals here who also play for the Viola. It is further motivation for us to gift this to the Italian movement.”

There will be a press conference at 19:15 on Thursday evening before the team then train for the last time at the Stadio Franchi before the game (first 15 minutes open to the press).
