Azzurrine beaten by England. Sbardella: “It mustn’t affect our path”

“This defeat mustn’t affect our path,” said the Women’s Under-19 National Team coach Enrico Sbardella as he saw the glass as being half full following defeat to England at the European Championship finals.

It was a balanced and hard-fought game until the end with the Azzurrine holding their own throughout. England took the lead after 53 minutes before the second goal came on the break after 76 minutes. Italy halved the deficit with a goal from the Pink Sport forward Annamaria Serturini in the 90th minute.

“Sure, it could have gone better but I’m satisfied with the team’s attitude. We fought for every ball and we tried until the end. After a balanced first half, the England’s physicality came out in the end and they’ve only lost once this year in a friendly with the United States. Now, we’ll recharge our batteries. This defeat can’t affect our path. Our morale is high, we’re doing well and we showed it.”

The Under-19s will be back in action against France on Friday at 15:00 local time after they lost 2-0 to the Netherlands today.
