Azzurrini train for the first time in Suwon ahead of opener against Uruguay

After arriving yesterday, the Under-20 National Team trained for the first time in Suwon at the K-League club’s facility ahead of Italy’s first match at the World Cup against Uruguay. In the afternoon, before training, there was a meeting with Alfredo Trentalange who is the director for the AIA’s technical sector and on behalf of FIFA he explained the consequences of foul play at the tournament. Gary Moretti who is the FIFA coordinator for Suwon spoke after about the organisation of the competition and how to prevent match fixing.

On the pitch, Alberico Evani’s side trained in the sun with temperatures similar to what they would have been in Italy. The players looked sharp despite the time difference of seven hours. The session lasted for about an hour and a half with the players working on different match situations before facing each other on small-size pitches.

Italy are at the same hotel as Group D opponents Uruguay, South Africa and Japan. On Sunday 21st they will face Uruguay in their opening fixture at 20:00 local time and they recently won the Under-20 South American Championship. Among their ranks is Rodrigo Betancur who has recently been signed by Juventus so he will have extra motivation against an Azzurrini side captained by his future teammate Rolando Mandragora.
