Simone Zaza was born on 25 June 1991 in Policoro, Matera. His career began at Atalanta where he made his Serie A debut in the 2008-9 season as he made three appearances. In 2010, he moved to Sampdoria. Following loans to Juve Stabia, Viareggio and Ascoli, he joined Sassuolo in 2013. For the Neroverdi, he scored nine goals in the 2013-14 Serie A season and eleven in the following campaign. In July 2015, he joined Juventus where he won the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa, scoring eight and providing two assists in 24 appearances as he often featured as a substitute. Later, he moved abroad with time spent at West Ham United and Valencia in Spain where’s he made 53 appearances and scored 19.
His international career began in 2007 with the Under-16 side, before he passed through the Under-17 and Under-19 on his way to the senior side. Prandelli called him up for pre-World Cup training camps in March and April 2014. He made his debut under Antonio Conte on 4th September 2014 in Bari against the Netherlands. His first Italy goal came five days later in the European Qualifications in Oslo during a 2-0 win over Norway. He was an important part of Conte’s squad at Euro 2016.
So far, Zaza has played 17 times for Italy and scored two goals.
