The Italy Beach Soccer team beat European champions Russia 6-5 on the second day of the Euroleague Superfinals and it came about in dramatic fashion at the end of extra-time in an action-filled match. In front of the crowd in Alghero, Italbeach took an important step ahead of Sunday’s final and to qualify for the 2019 European Games in Minsk. It’s the
Simone Marinai scored the winner in extra-time with a spectacular back heel. It was the final act after a comeback where Italy showed great heart after being 4-2 before Gabriele Gori equalised in the third period as he netted a brace while Emmanuele Zurlo also scored an important goal. Russia had taken the lead after nine minutes through Shishin immediately before Dario Ramacciotti levelled with his head. After the break, Gori put Italy ahead with a bicycle kick but Russia responded and went ahead over the span of nine minutes with goals from Zemskov, Nomikov and Krash. It was Ramacciotti again with his head to keep the Azzurri in it. Paporotny made it 5-3 before goals from Gori and Zurlo at the end sent it to extra time. 60 seconds from time, it was Marinai who sent Italbeach into ecstasy.
A win against Ukraine in the final group match will see Italy make the final.
