Thanks to goals from Nicolò Fagioli and Giuseppe Iglio, the Under-17 National Team beat the Czech Republic in the first of two friendlies against the home side at the Andruv Stadium in Olomouc with the second to be played on Thursday at 11:00 CET.
It was a deserved win for the Azzurrini who took the lead through Fagioli after 24 minutes via a good team move before doubling the lead in the 31st minute with Iglio. After Italy missed chances to go 3-0 up, the Czechs made it 2-1 after 61 minutes through Daniel Kosek. Coach Carmine Nunziata was satisfied with his team’s effort and praised the debutant from Genoa Nicolò Rovella along with Milan and Udinese forwards Lorenzo Colombo and Eric Lirussi. “The new arrivals adapted well and I got a good response from them and the rest of the team. Away from the result which is always important, I have to say that it was a positive performance. We had three or four clear chances to kill the game and we could have won by a bigger scoreline.” In two days, we’ll do it again with the aim of arriving at the European Championship Elite Round between 7th and 13th March in the best shape. The Azzurrini will face Turkey, Iceland and the hosts the Netherlands. “On Thursday, I’ll put out an almost completely different team to keep the guys fit and to give people a chance to show what they can do. This is a solid group with the right mentality but we need to arrive at the Elite Round in top condition to do well there.”
