First match against Spain tomorrow: Migliorini: “We want to play thre

The Women’s Under-17 National Team arrived last night in Lithuania and trained this morning in Kaunas before travelling Šiauliai where they face Spain tomorrow at 11:00 local time or 10:00 CEST in the opening match of the Women’s Under-17 European Championship. Spain were finalists in the previous edition and have won the trophy three times.

“We’ve discovered the idea climate to play football,” said the Coach Massimo Migliorini. “We’re happy to be here and it’s important that we play three levels at a high level, then if the results follow we’ll obviously all be happy. Spain have great individual quality, they play by memory at pace with a 4-3-3 formation. We’ll have to make the most of our characteristics such as our ability to attack space and we want to show that we can play on a level footing with them.”

The team is practically already known. “I only have one doubt, there are still two girls competing for one spot.” One of the things to beat is nerves ahead of a first appearance at the finals of a European Championship. “It’s important that the girls are calm and take to pitch without feeling too much pressure and that they’re aware that they deserve this chance.”

The other group match will see Poland and England meet. The top two from each group will qualify for the semi-finals with places for the next World Cup in Uruguay up for grabs. “I see England as the true favourite,” added the Italy Coach. “They’re a complete team, they have everything needed to win. Poland are also a good team, they’re at our level.”

Further more, the girls received a message of good luck from their male equivalent who are also playing at a European Championship. “Our energy is your energy, our hearts are with you because we’re playing the same game,” went the video message. “Together, we want to win and go beyond our limits. Come on girls, Europe is ours and it’s always worth the effort to live a dream. We’re all with you!” (Click here for the video)
