The Futsal National Team gathered last night in Kharkiv where they started training in the afternoon for two friendlies against Ukraine tomorrow and Wednesday at the Lokomotiv Palace of Sport. It will be useful for Roberto Menichelli as he decides on the group which will take part in UEFA Futsal Euro Slovenia in 2018 with Italy facing Serbia on 1st February.

Murilo and Miarelli both picked up injuries in the latest league matches and have dropped out without being replaced. The absence of Luparense seeks Stefano Mammarella back for the first time in a long time. “It’s a very important and nice note,” said Roberto Menichelli. “After his physical problems, he’s returned to fitness. He’s in great shape.” Apart from the goalkeeper from Abruzzo, the 2014 European champions Gabriel Lima and Massimo de Luca are back along with Paolo Cesaroni to bring in experience for a group containing both Nicolò Baron and Giuliano Fortini (borth born in 1996) and Giacomo Azzoni (1995).

“Ukraine are one of the top teams in Europe because of their strength, tradition and consistency. They’re a team with significant technical skills and they run a lot like all the Eastern European teams. We’re expecting to be involved in two very difficult matches which are needed to let us understand what level we are at with an Italy team which is considerably different compared to the past, we have a lot of guys who developed in Italy and a low average age. It’s clear that we have less experience at the top level. Matches such as these help us to evaluate the squad’s consistency and to train and prepare for coming matches above all. As in Slovakia, we’ll look to involve everybody.”

In the morning, the Ukrainian Federation invited Roberto Menichelli to a seminar for Futsal coaches at the Lokomotiv Palace of Sport.
