The Under-18 National Team of Daniele Francheschini showed pride to take a draw in Ajdovscina against Slovenia in their first friendly of the season. The match ended 3-3 after a poor start where defensive errors led to the Azzurrini going behind. Kurtovic scored in the first minute before Zec doubled the lead after 15 minutes. Atalanta’s Andrea Rizzo Pinna was the playmaker for the Azzurrini and he halved the deficit in the 34th minute. Nivokazi leveled in the second minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half. After the break, Golya put Slovenia back ahead from a set piece in the 73rd minute but Palermo’s Damico leveled in the 75th minute to secure a draw.
“It was our first outing and naturally there were some reflexes that needed work, especially in defence,” said the new coach Franceschini on his debut. “I’m very satisfied though with the character showed by the boys for the whole match, they never gave in and they show that they know how to respond.”
