Italy await Poland encounter in Marijampole. Migliorini: “We must not be

Following their impressive opening draw against last year’s finalists Spain, the Under-17 National Women’s Team will now be back in action tomorrow against Poland in Marijampole (15:00 local time, 14:00 CEST). This will be the Azzurrine’s second encounter at the ongoing European Championship in Lithuania. This morning saw the team take part in a UEFA course on doping and match-fixing, while then completing a training session in the afternoon in Kaunas. They will leave for Marijampole Saturday morning.

With Poland drawing 2-2 against England in the group’s other opening fixture, the standings are still extremely open and a win for Italy tomorrow will take them one step closer to the semi-final: “Poland are a very strong side physically,” said coach Massimo Migliorini. “They have two or three top-class individuals and we know that it’ll be a really tough game. We must make the most of our ability, trying to build like we did against Spain and without getting distracted. We don’t need to nervous about the result. A great performance will lead to a result.”

The Coach also revealed that their draw against Spain unsurprisingly boosted morale among the squad: “In reality, I saw the team make a leap in quality during the Elite Round,” Migliorini added. “They showed that they can compete with anyone, however, the match against Spain made the girls more aware of their abilities.”

A rock-solid defence has been at the heart of the team’s work of late, not conceding a goal in their last four matches: “There is no real secret,” the coach explained. “We work on both aspects of our game, with and without the ball. The girls have done well to adapt to these concepts.”
