Kean: “We’ll stay focused and we can go far”

After a good opening win over Belarus (3-0), the National Under-17 Team had a recovery session today ahead of their second fixture in the European Championship’s Elite Round. Belgium will provide the opposition tomorrow after they lost 2-0 to the Dutch hosts in their first match. At 18:00 CEST in Groesbeek, the Belgians will need a result against Italy to keep their hopes of qualifying for the finals qhich will be held between 3rd and 19th May in Croatia. The winners of the eight groups and the seven best runners-up will progress.

Despite the defeat, Belgium gave a good account of themselves against the Netherlands, playing as equals in the first half and having chances but the Dutch were able to take the lead from their one chance at the end of the first half. Belgium are expected to provide tougher opposition than Belarus and the Italy coach Emiliano Bigica is not taking them lightly. “We’ll have a motivated side in front of us who can play good stuff and they can give us a hard time,” he said. “I asked the boys to recover today and to get their physical and mental energy back so that we can play with the same intensity that we showed yesterday.”

Juventus forward Moise Kean hit a similar note as he spoke after scoring a brace the day before against Belarus. “We were very focused and got the result,” he said. “Tomorrow will be more difficult but if we show the same concentration then I am very convinced that we can go far in this European Championship:”
