Made In Italy: Sirigu sets a record, Borini finds the net once more

Although his Osasuna side remain bottom of the pile in La Liga and they lost 3-0 to Atletico Madrid at Easter, Salvatore Sirigu was able to set a record with his performance in goal. After a tough year for the former PSG and Sevilla man, he’s dropped down to a less prestigious side in search of regular playing time. The Italian goalkeeper took on the challenge with great humility, and he’s slowly getting back to the levels which saw him feature for his country and be twice voted as Ligue 1’s best goalkeeper. The final score in Madrid didn’t do justice to the quality of his performance with the goalkeeper setting a small record as previously mentioned. The Italian was able to save two penalties in less than two minutes of play between the 89th and 91st minute, stopping from Thomas and Carrasco. It may be scant consolation but his was a positive display in tough circumstances.
Across the English Channel, Fabio Borini was finally able to celebrate scoring again. The Sunderland attacker came on late and was able to find the net to make it 2-2 against West Ham United. The Black Cats remain last in the Premier League but Borini has still been having a decent season. Still in England, the Easter weekend brought up the big match between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were able to completely hold Antonio Conte’s side at bay as they won 2-0. Matteo Darmian warrants a mention for his performance as a starter in a back four for Jose Mourinho’s team and he was always where he needed to be when closing down.
