Joint Women’s National Team and Under-23 camp ends. Friendly with Fra

A friendly with the Under-23 team brought the Women’s National Team’s training camp to a close. The match was held in the morning at the Villaggio Azzurro in Novarello and ended 4-0 to the senior side led by Milena Bertolini. All of the goals were headers and they were scored by Daniela Sabatino, Lisa Alborghetti, Barbara Bonansea and Cristiana Girelli.

“It was a very fruitful camp,” said Milena Bertolini. “The work in scouting has allowed us to expand the number of players in the pool to be called up and there are different young and promising players. Some of the girls from the Under-23s had the chance to train with the senior team, it was special for them and some were a bit surprised with the call-up. There was a lot of enthusiasm and this morning there was good intensity and quality in the friendly. The girls know that they need to do well for their clubs and always train at their best to be called and ready for international football.”

Top of Group 6 and three points ahead of Belgium who have a game in hand, Italy’s qualification campaign will start again on 6th April in Moldova before hosting Belgium four days later in a key match to decided who wins the group to book a place in France 2019. France will also be the next opponents for Italy in a friendly on 20th January at the Stade Vélodrome’ in Marseille at 21:00 CET. “It’s a very important match,” explained the Coach. “It will allow us to see where we are on our journey of development. In these months we’ve worked well and picked up positive results, but the standard will increase in 2018 and we have to do even better than what we’ve done so far.”
