Training continues at Trigoria. Ferrari: “It’s key that we stay humble

The Under-21 National Team are going through their final days of training at the Fulvio Bernardini training centre in Trigoria before they fly to Poland on Thursday ahead of the opening fixture with Denmark at 20:45 CEST on Sunday 18th June. Simone Scuffet joined up with the squad while the rest of the players who were with the senior side will arrive tomorrow. Luigi Di Biagio has given Donnarumma, Conti, Pellegrini, Gagliardini and Bernardeschi a day off rest after their recent engagements.

Alex Ferrari is also happy to be there after Ventura picked him for the San Marino friendly to make his first appearance in an Azzurri shirt after winning promotion at Hellas Verona. “It was a great feeling to be one of the 23 going to Poland,” said the defender from Modena. We’re not forgetting the players who aren’t going but helped us to make it there. We have a chance to do well at the competition, I hear people say that we’re one of the strongest Under-21 sides in the last 20 years and that might be true on paper but only by staying humble can we achieve success.”

The main aim is to get out of the group and better elimination at that stage two years ago in the Czech Republic. “There were lots of expectations on us, we’re calm now and we know that we have to have the right mentality in Krakow. The three opponents in our group are all very strong, even if Germany are the side who can put us in most difficulty.”
