After the good performance from the Under-18 National Team to rescue a 3-3 draw with Slovenia and the Under-19 National Team’s 2-0 win over Croatia, the Under-20s drew with Ravenna’s first team in their opening friendly for the campaign. They played well and were only pegged back by the Romagna side at the end of the second half. It ended 1-1 after Marco Tumminello put the Azzurrini ahead 22 minutes into the first half , Tabacchi then leveled in the 82nd minute.
As with the Under-18s (Daniele Franceschini) and the Under-19s (Paolo Nicolato), there was a new coach on the bench for the Under-20 National Team with former Fiorentina Primavera coach Federico Guidi taking charge. “It was a good game,” he said. “I saw the spirit from the World Cup, the group was very close with a strong attachment to the shirt. The players tried to follow my instructions despite the fact they’d come recently from their clubs and the heat had an impact on the match. I saw good signs from the team. For time we’ve been trying to improve how we get the ball forward, a few things need to click and we’ll be ready for our first Elite League appointment against Russia on 5th September.”
