Gian Piero Ventura paid a visit to newly-promoted side Spal at their training break in Pejo. Accompanied by the Azzurri’s Team Manager Gabriele Oriali, the Italy Coach was welcomed by the President of the Ferrara club Walter Mattioli and the Coach Leonardo Semplici for lunch before attending training in the afternoon.
“I believe that Spal’s achievements in the last two years come from organisation and the compactness between the team and club,” said Ventura. “Leonardo Semplici was able to transmit a mentality to his players which allowed them to make it into Serie A.”
“It wasn’t just a courtesy visit,” Ventura added. “It was also about getting to know each other so we could explain what we did last year with Italy and what we intend to do this year.”
Ventura and Oriali will continue doing the rounds tomorrow as they go to Verona to see Hellas. In the evening, the Coach will meet the President Tavecchio in Rome where there will be a press conference at 16:30 CEST at the FIGC headquarters.
