BIOGRAPHY

Born in Anzio, in the province of Rome, on 12th January 1995, Alessio Romagnoli spent his youth with the AS Roma academy. He made his competitive debut with the capital club’s senior team aged 17 in a Coppa Italia clash with Atalanta in December 2013. His Serie A debut came a few days later in as a substitute in a game against AC Milan, whilst he scored his first Serie A goal in March 2014 when he made his first start. Romagnoli went on to make eleven appearances during the following season, mostly playing at left-back. He then moved to Sampdoria on loan and once again he scored first goal on his first start with the new club.

At the end of the loan, Romagnoli left Roma to join AC Milan in an attempt to follow in Alessandro Nesta’s footsteps as he is widely regarded as a potential successor of the former world-class Lazio and Milan defender.

The left-footed centre-back represented Italy at youth levels and made his debut for the Under-21 national team in March 2014 in a European qualifier held in Northern Ireland. Romagnoli then took part in the 2015 U21 European Championship in the Czech Republic. He was called up for the first time to the senior team on 27th August 2016.
